Conte Cruel October #3: Digital Halo

This is the third entry in my the ongoing Conte Cruel October series. Thanks for reading if you are, I appreciate anyone taking a chance on this weird little tales.

A second controversey has struck the channel. How he wished he could say that about his own situation and be met with the same laughter and adoration it commanded from others. That was over now, huh?

Long had he ridden his self-righteousness to success, gleefully documenting every arguement, curious expenditure, and devastating scandal of his digital universe. Who would dare step to him, the Lord of Cancelation?

A lot of people, actually, far more than he’d expected.

Surely someone somewhere understands! How was he suppoed to know there were drugs on the yacht? They weren’t HIS drugs, for fuck’s sake. Also who just does random drugs they find on an influecencer’s rented yacht?

Right. A child might. The overdose was bad enough but the fact they were a teenager? He buried his face in his hands.

All this time he’d sat slumped in his desk chair, sizzling beneath the too-hot studio lights he’d crammed into his home office. Looking up, he caught himself in the viewfinder and sat transfixed. Harsh rings gave his eyes an ethereal awfulness he adored losing himself in. This was his true form, a digital deity burdened with the purpose of exposing the unworthy among his flock. He was endless, uncancelable, a force in this world and perhaps… it’s lone savior.

He smirked.

“Hey fam! You won’t believe how insane things got over the weekend. Before we get into it, don’t forget to like and subscribe!”

Hadrian Flyte

If there's a strange countercultural thing out there, Hadrian's probably orbited it in some capacity in the last 20 years. Games journalism, professional wrestling, upstart non-theistic religious movements, theater production , and data analytics are just some of the myriad worlds he's navigated in his 37 going on 38 years. Restless and curious, the chaotic push and pull of embarking on a new reality every few months to years has had a clear impact in his writing output. Maybe the next chapter is returning to what he assumed he was supposed to do all along: writing.
